When is the best time to begin orthodontics?

Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment. Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but upon examination, we can determine the most advantageous time to begin treatment. If you are concerned about your child and would like to have an evaluation, please contact our office.

Why Is Orthodontics Important?

An attractive smile and improved self-image are just a couple of the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Alleviating and preventing physical health problems is just as important. There are recent studies that link poor dental health to overall poor physical health. Without treatment, orthodontic problems can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, bone destruction, chewing and digestive difficulties, speech impairments, tooth loss and other dental injuries. If your teeth are causing you to have a negative self-image, or you desire to correct your malocclusion, please contact our office for more information.
